North West Housing Partnership (NWHP) is celebrating a milestone; 25 years assisting thousands of individuals to obtain, and improve their housing in Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Kane counties. North West Housing Partnership, a non-profit organization, offers an array of programs and educational services that aim at supporting cost-effective, quality housing for low to moderate income individuals.

The organization was founded in 1990, and initially focused on housing for senior citizens with low to moderate incomes. NWHP has since grown to become a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency, offering home repair and handyman services, and rehabs/sells formerly foreclosed properties to revive neighborhoods which opens home ownership opportunities to individuals with low to moderate incomes.

“I am one of a dedicated group of civic leaders who founded the North West Housing Partnership 25 years ago,” said Kathy Gilmer, NWHP board vice president and founding board member. She went on to state by “Bringing together private and public resources, we have increased affordable housing by building apartments for seniors, repairing single family homes, providing counseling for home buyers and rehabbing foreclosed properties.” Marc Neuerman the Boards Chair stated, NWHP continues to serve the affordable housing needs of market area residents while maintaining responsible fiscal budgets and policies.”

One of the services offered is down payment and closing cost assistance made possible through participation in HUD approved workshops that provide a required certificate. Assistance up to $10,000 is often provided to individuals who purchased properties that are rehabilitated and sold by NWHP.

“It is so rewarding to sit across from a first-time homebuyer purchasing one of our rehabbed homes, who is credit-worthy, yet only earns 80-percent of the area median income,” said Robyn Sandys, NWHP executive director. “These are hardworking people who want to be a part of the American Dream of home ownership.”

Workshops to assist homebuyers are held on a monthly basis at North West Housing Partnership, located at 1701 E. Woodfield Road, Suite 203 in Schaumburg.
